We were quite alone when he popped the question

and I thought he was suffering indigestion.

When he asked me to be his loving bride

it took me a second to really decide.

He'd a couple of things which were in his favour,

he didn't drink and was an excellent saver.

I heard those coins in his pocket jingle

then decided I simply couldn't stay single.

Daddy couldn't object, I was of age

and my beloved was earning an excellent wage.

He went to my parents to ask for my hand

Uncle Willie succeeded in selling him land.

Mummy was fretting on just who should cater

but all of the cost was defrayed by my pater.

When the guest list was made I played a big part,

refused to ask Dora or that horrid Bart.

then had the bright idea we should elope.

And my darling to my needs did rise

For a groom girls, I won first prize.
